Themes Brought to Therapy

The type of issues or conditions you may seek counselling or psychotherapy for could include any of the following:

  • ANXIETY RELATED DISORDERS AND POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) e.g. stress, phobias (including social phobias), lack of confidence, performance anxiety (including public speaking and sport performance), managing difficult people/assertion issues (see relationships), accident and personal injury.
  • ADDICTIONS, OBSESSIONAL COMPULSIVE BEHAVIOURS (OCD),  UNWANTED HABITS/BEHAVIORS. Addictions may include substances, gambling and shopping, or obsessional compulsive behaviours (OCD).  Unwanted habits are any unhelpful patterns of behaviour that result in a loss of quality in life.
  • DEPRESSION. Low self esteem, lack of motivation, lacking fun (or other quality of life issues).
  • BEREAVMENT, GRIEF AND LOSS. Loss of a loved one, loss of health, loss/ending of a significant relationship, redundancy or retirement adjustment, any other losses or changes in life requiring adjustment/adaptation.
  • RELATIONSHIP ISSUES. Family, marital or sexual relationship issues (including gender identity issues), harassment at work or bullying, shyness and lack of social confidence.
  • UNRESOLVED CHILDOOD OR PAST ISSUES. Child abuse or neglect, other traumatic experiences even if years in the past.
  • HYPOCHONDRIASIS. Fear of physical illness( fear of medical treatments/interventions) or over preoccupation with health issues in the absence of ill health.
  • PAIN MANAGEMENT. Following an appropriate assessment and referral from a medical practitioner.
  • ANGER MANAGEMENT AND ASSERTION. Issues of physical and verbal abuse from either a receiving or giving focus. Managing difficult relationships in the work place, socially or family. Assertion skills or the art of influencing people.
  • MEANING AND FULLFILMENT IN LIFE. Coping with “a mid life crisis”, finding the right career, establishing life values.
